Why Adults Across Southlake Train at Sampson.

  • Trained by Two Bellator Veterans

Owner Jason Sampson, a 3rd-degree black belt under Carlos Machado, and instructor Neal Ewing, a black belt and Bellator fighter. Training under two professional fighters is a level of coaching most academies in the area cannot offer.

  • Real Skill, Not Cardio Theater

Every class teaches a transferable technique with real self-defense application. The conditioning is a byproduct of training correctly, not the product itself.

  • Train at Your Pace

Adults of every fitness level and experience train here. Instructors calibrate intensity and complexity based on where you are, not where the most advanced person in the room is.

  • A Real Community

A private, family-owned academy where people from all walks of life come together to get better. You will know your training partners by name, and they will know you.

Two Ways to Train. One Standard.

Who You Train Under

Jason Sampson

Jason Sampson grew up in tough circumstances and found direction through wrestling at twelve. Jiu Jitsu changed the trajectory of his life. After a spinal fusion at C4 and C5 that nearly put him in a wheelchair, he made a full recovery and returned to competition. He is a 3rd-degree black belt under Carlos Machado, a Pan American champion, and a Bellator veteran with a 14-1 record. He has coached military, law enforcement, and survivors of domestic violence, and he teaches every student the same thing: hard work pays off, on and off the mat.

Alongside Jason, instructor Neal Ewing brings elite competition experience to the mat. Neal Ewing is a black belt and Bellator fighter who brings elite competition experience to the mat. Training alongside two professional fighters and black belts is a level of coaching most academies in the area cannot offer.

What Adults Always Ask

Every Question Adults Ask Before Signing Up.

Can I start adult Jiu Jitsu in Southlake if I am out of shape?

Yes. The program is built to meet you at your current fitness level and build from there. Conditioning improves as a result of training consistently. You do not need to get in shape before you start.

Adult Jiu Jitsu in Southlake for people in their 40s or 50s. Is it for me?

Yes. Some of our most consistent and technically advanced students started training later in life. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu rewards leverage and timing over size and strength, which is exactly why it works for adult bodies of every age.

Is the academy beginner-friendly and intimidating?

Sampson Jiu Jitsu Academy is a private, family-owned school. It is not a big-box gym. Most people who walk in for a trial have never trained before, and the room is built for that. You will be welcomed, not tested.

How often should I come per week?

Two to three classes per week produces consistent progress. One class per week maintains the habit but slows advancement significantly.

What gear do I need?

No gear is needed for your free trial. Comfortable athletic clothing and a water bottle are all you need to step on the mat. If you decide to continue, we will tell you exactly what gi to get.

Will I have to spar right away?

No. Live rolling is introduced when an instructor determines a student has the foundational mechanics and control to engage safely. There is no timeline pressure and no expectation that you will roll before you are ready to do so safely.

Is it safe?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling art with no striking, which removes the most common source of injury in combat sports. New students drill technique before any live training, rolling is supervised, and you tap to reset, not to get hurt.

How long until I can defend myself with Jiu Jitsu training?

Six months of consistent training at two to three sessions per week produces students who are genuinely competent at the beginner level. Basic self-defense reflexes hold up much sooner than that as movement patterns become automatic.

How does the free trial work?

Your first class is free, with no obligation to continue. Pick a start date, show up in comfortable clothes, and train. There is no long-term contract to start.
