We are a private, family-owned studio, so we match each student to the right class for their age and experience level. Call us or book a free trial and we will confirm the day and time that fits you before your first visit.

Our Programs

Class times are confirmed when you book. We post any updates on Facebook and Instagram.

Right Class, Right Level

We place you in the class that fits.

Because this is a private studio, we match every student to the right class for their age and experience level. New students never get dropped into the deep end. Call us at (817) 320-8513 or book a free trial and we will tell you exactly which class to come to and when.

Drop-In Policy

Train any class in your program.

Active members can attend any class within their program, subject to available space. Prospective students in their free trial follow the same rule within the class they are matched to. Visitors who are not yet enrolled are always welcome to watch a class before they decide to start.

Makeup Classes

Life happens. Make it up that week.

If you miss a class, attend another class in your program that same week to make it up, subject to space. Students who need to miss an extended period due to illness, travel, or injury should contact the academy and we will work with you. We keep this simple because the goal is to keep you consistent.

Before You Come In

What to Know for Your First Class.

First-time nerves are normal and expected. This list covers everything so your first visit is straightforward from the moment you walk in.

  1. 01

    Arrive 10 minutes early

Early arrival lets us sign you in, show you around, and introduce you to the instructor before class starts. Rushing in at the last minute means missing context that makes the first class easier to follow.

  2. 02

    Wear athletic clothing

Shorts or leggings with a t-shirt work for the first class. Class is barefoot on the mat. No need to buy a gi or any gear before your first visit.

  3. 03

    Bring a water bottle

Classes run 30 minutes to an hour and a half depending on the program. Staying hydrated matters, especially in your first few sessions before your conditioning improves.

  4. 04

Leave the gear shopping for later

No special equipment is needed for the trial class. When you decide to enroll, we will give you a specific list and tell you where to get it without overpaying.

  5. 05

Parents: the viewing area is ready for you

Dedicated seating is available in the parent observation area. Watching the class in full is encouraged for first visits. We want you to see exactly what your child is experiencing from the first day.

  6. 06

    No experience is needed

Every student starts somewhere. Instructors will meet you at your current level and give you corrections and encouragement throughout. Showing up is the only prerequisite for the first class.

  7. 07

Remove shoes at the mat edge

All training happens barefoot on the mat. Shoes are removed at the edge before stepping on. This is a standard protocol and will be pointed out when you arrive if you miss the signage.

  8. 08

    Ask questions after class

After the class ends, the instructor will check in with new students. That is the right time to ask about the curriculum, pacing, and what to expect in the weeks ahead. No question is too basic.

Inside A Class

What a Typical Class Looks Like at Our Southlake Studio.

  1. 1

    Line Up and Bow In

Students line up in order of rank at the start of every class and bow to open the session. This is a two-second routine that signals the transition from outside life to focused training. Students who are chronically late miss this, which is why arriving early matters.

  2. 2

    Warm-Up

Every class opens with a structured warm-up that includes movement drills, mobility work, and light cardiovascular activity appropriate for the age group and program. For kids, this often includes movement games. For adult programs, it is more technique-focused. The warm-up runs 8 to 12 minutes.

  3. 3

    Technique Instruction

The instructor introduces one to three related techniques for the day. Each technique is demonstrated in full, broken down step by step, and demonstrated again before students attempt it. For new students, this is the slowest and most detailed part of the class. Instructors welcome questions here.

  4. 4

    Drilling with a Partner

Students pair up and drill the technique repeatedly with a partner. Repetitions build muscle memory. The instructor circulates and provides individual corrections. New students are paired intentionally with experienced partners who can guide them through the movement with patience.

  5. 5

    Controlled Application

Advanced and intermediate students apply their technique in a controlled live setting, whether that is light sparring, positional rolling, or situational drilling. New students observe or participate at a reduced resistance level under close instructor supervision. This section only applies when the student is ready.

  6. 6

    Cool-Down and Debrief

The final five minutes of every class are spent cooling down, stretching, and debriefing. The instructor highlights what the class worked on, acknowledges students who demonstrated the technique well, and previews what is coming next. This is where the lesson sticks.

  7. 7

    Bow Out

Students bow out in the same formation they opened in. For new students, the instructor will check in briefly after class to answer questions and give early feedback. Parents of younger students are invited to speak with the instructor at this point as well.

Before You Book

Common Questions About Classes and Events.

How do I find out the current class times?

The fastest way to get current class times is to call us at (817) 320-8513 or book a free trial class. We are a private, family-owned studio, and we will match you to the right class for your age and experience level when you reach out. We will also confirm the day and time before your first visit so there is no guesswork.

How often should I train each week?

Two to three classes per week is the standard for meaningful progress in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. One class per week keeps you in the routine but slows advancement, because too much technique fades between sessions. Students who are serious about progressing, or who want to compete, train three or more times a week. Students who can only make one class per week are still welcome and will still improve. Talk with your instructor about a realistic pace for your schedule.

Can I drop in, or do I need to register?

Active members can drop into any eligible class within their program, subject to available space. Prospective students in their free trial follow the same rules within the class they are matched to. First-time visitors are always welcome to watch a class before they start. To train, book your free trial first so we can place you in the right class at the right time.

What if I miss a class?

Life happens. If you miss a class, you can attend another class in your program that same week to make it up, subject to space. For students who need to miss an extended period due to illness, travel, or injury, contact the academy and we will work with you. We keep this simple because the goal is to keep you consistent, not to penalize you for things outside your control.

When are belt promotions?

Promotions in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are based on individual readiness, not a fixed calendar. Students are promoted when they have shown the technique, attitude, and consistency the next rank requires, so two people who start the same day may progress at different times. There is no test to cram for. Show up, train, and the progress takes care of itself.

Can I watch a class before I start?

Yes, and we encourage it. Reach out, tell us you would like to observe, and we will let you know a good time to come in. There is no pressure to sign up during the visit. Watching a real class is the most honest way to see whether the coaching and the room are the right fit for you or your child.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes. Private lessons are one-on-one coaching for any age and any goal, from building a foundation as a beginner to preparing for competition. You can train one-on-one with a 3rd-degree black belt under Carlos Machado and a Bellator veteran, which is rare anywhere in the area. Book a free trial or contact us to set one up.

How do I get started?

Book a free trial class. Come in, get welcomed, train, and decide for yourself. No experience and no equipment are required. You can also call us at (817) 320-8513 and we will get you on the schedule.
