Confidence and Control for Ages 7 to 13

Jr. Champs is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for ages 7 to 13 at Sampson Jiu Jitsu Academy. Students learn positional control, escapes, and beginner submissions, the leverage-based grappling that lets a smaller person handle a larger one without throwing a punch.

Jiu Jitsu rewards patience and problem solving over size and strength. Kids build body awareness, composure under pressure, and a quiet confidence that follows them into the classroom and onto the bus.

Leverage Beats Size

Jiu Jitsu is the most studied martial art for smaller-than-average kids. Technique, not strength, decides what happens on the mat. Students learn that fast and carry it everywhere.

Self-Defense Without Striking

Jiu Jitsu has one of the lowest injury rates in martial arts. No strikes to the face, no knockouts. Kids learn to control a situation and stay safe without throwing a punch.

Discipline That Shows Up at School

The focus, respect, and effort we ask for on the mat are the same habits that help in the classroom. Parents notice the difference in report cards and attitude.

How We Build Kids

Built around how kids actually develop.

Every kids program keys in on the four stages of childhood development: Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Social. We call it PIES. It is how we structure classes, design drills, and build the relationships that turn a shy four-year-old into a confident kid who walks into school with a quiet sense of who they are.

  • P Physical

Coordination, strength, control of the body.

  • I Intellectual

Focus, problem-solving, learning how to learn.

  • E Emotional

    Confidence, self-regulation, handling setbacks.

  • S Social

    Respect, teamwork, friendship across ages.

Before You Sign Up

Common questions about Jr. Champs in Southlake, TX.

Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu safe for kids?

Jiu Jitsu has one of the lowest injury rates of any martial art. There are no strikes to the face and no knockouts, and live rolling is introduced progressively, only after technique is solid. Most kids train for years with nothing more than the occasional bump.

Will training make my child more aggressive?

No. Real Jiu Jitsu training has the opposite effect. It builds composure, not aggression. Students learn to control their reactions instead of amplifying them, which is exactly the skill that defuses bullying.

How long are the classes?

Jr. Champs classes run 55 minutes. That gives students time to warm up, drill technique, and roll under supervision.

My child has never grappled. Can they start?

Yes. Beginners are welcome in every class. The first few sessions focus on getting comfortable on the mat and learning the basics. Book a free trial class to see it in action.
