Kids & Teens
Lil' Champs and Jr. Champs teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to ages 4 through 13 in small, focused classes. Questions About Finding the Right Fit.
Which program should my child start in?
Ages 4 to 7 start in Lil' Champs, a 30-minute class built for the youngest students. Ages 7 to 13 train in Jr. Champs, where they learn real grappling, control, and self-defense. From age 14 up, students join Adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If you are not sure, book a free trial class and we will help you find the right fit.
Do you teach anything other than Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
No. Sampson Jiu Jitsu Academy is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy. Every program, from Lil' Champs through adults, teaches the leverage-based grappling that lets a smaller person control a larger one without throwing a punch. We keep our focus on doing one thing well.
Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a good first martial art for an adult?
Yes. Most of our adult students started with zero experience. Jiu Jitsu rewards technique and leverage over size and strength, so you do not need to be in shape or know anything to start. You get fit by training. Adult classes are taught by two black belts and Bellator veterans, Jason Sampson and Neal Ewing.
What are private lessons for?
Private lessons are one-on-one coaching for any age and any goal. New students use them to build a foundation fast before joining group class. Experienced students use them to sharpen a position, fix a weak spot, or prepare to compete. They are coached personally by a 3rd-degree black belt under Carlos Machado.
Are classes grouped by age or by skill level?
Programs are grouped by age, because physical and cognitive development drives the right training format. Within each program, classes mix skill levels and instruction is differentiated so beginners are never expected to perform at the level of advanced students.
How does the free trial work?
Your first class is free. Pick a program, book a trial class, and come train. Kids train while parents watch, adults get welcomed onto the mat, and you decide from there with no pressure and nothing to commit to up front. No experience or equipment required.
